Healing helps to strengthen bonds
I feel it is so important for the guardian to be present and grounded when healing a horse, as it can help to strengthen the connection and bond between the partnership.
I also encourage them to observe how their horse behaves during the session – what they like and what they don't like. It still amazes me to this day, how they react and guide you to the parts of the body they want you to work on, how they relax in their body, the slowing down of the breathing, the softness of the eyes, the quivering of the lips, the lowering of the head, the resting of a hind leg.
Seeing them release the tension, such as a shake of the neck, licking and chewing, yawning, or having a big stretch is so rewarding.
Sometimes the guardian is receiving healing at the same time, they may also come to a realisation or have a lightbulb moment, and understand the reasons why their horse is mirroring their energy, where they can then make changes to help themselves and their horse. It could be something so subtle.
The more we practice breathing and grounding techniques in our horses' presence too, the more they find it easier to come back to that present moment, to relax and feel safe.
